“In 2012, nearly 71 percent of cyberattacks occurred in businesses with fewer than 100 employees,” said Senator Risch.

Last week, Idaho’s Senator Risch and fellow US Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Brian Schatz (D-HI), John Thune (R-SD) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) introduced a bill that will provide a consistent set of resources for small businesses to best protect their digital assets from cybersecurity threats. The Making Available Information Now to Strengthen Trust and Resilience and Enhance Enterprise Technology (MAIN STREET) Cybersecurity Act will create a simple, voluntary framework small businesses can utilize to protect their data. This will build off of the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2014 to ensure the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework considers the specific needs of small businesses.
