Katie Sewell

Katie joined the Idaho SBDC as the Deputy Director in 1999 and was named State Director in early 2013. She has more than 25 years of experience in developing and delivering business assistance programs. Her areas of expertise include triple bottom line business practices, grant management, strategic planning, program development, and sustainable development. On the national level, she has been a member of the accreditation committee for SBDCs since 2009.

Prior to joining the Idaho SBDC, Katie was Bureau Chief at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy from Colorado State University and an MBA from Boise State University. She has served on a variety of non-profit boards including the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center, the Idaho Environmental Forum, GreenWorks Idaho and Dunia Marketplace.

Kathy joined the Idaho SBDC as Deputy Director in early 2013. She has over 30 years of experience in the area of non-profit development. Her areas of expertise include grant writing and grant management, fundraising, event management, and public and legislative relations.

Kathy is a native Idahoan and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Idaho State University. She currently participates as a member of the advisory council for the Idaho Human Rights Education Center and the advisory board for the Nampa Family Justice Center.

Paul Cooperrider

Technology Commercialization Program Director

Paul joined the SBDC in December 2014. In his role, he is responsible for helping small businesses with technology as their core value-add commercialize their products and services. Through a combination of programs and initiatives, those small businesses have the opportunity to increase their success in commercializing their technology.

Paul is a proven executive in the technology industry with expertise in startups and growing businesses. Prior to joining the SBDC, Paul was Vice President of Product Development for Inovus, Inc. and a member of Inovus's executive team. He provided strategic direction for technology development, and managed the engineering team. Prior to that, Paul had his own technology/business consulting firm, with a focus on intellectual property, nanotechnology and CleanTech businesses. During that time, he was an advisory board member of a startup and served on selection committees and reviewing panels for startups seeking investment and business advice.

Before his consulting career, he had a successful 24-year career with Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), serving in multiple business and engineering leadership positions. Paul’s career at HP focused on commercializing technologies and emerging businesses, including roles as General Manager of HP's Personal Storage Business and New Business Development Manager.

Paul holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Illinois, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. Mr. Cooperrider is a past member of the Licensing Executives Society International.

Dave joins the Idaho SBDC from Seattle, where he spent 15 years as an award-winning Corporate Communications Strategist, working with executives and leaders from Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Micron. After leaving the corporate world, Dave co-founded healthcare informatics and Internet of Things technology startups, helping to create products that allow customers to solve their information, logistics and data-aggregation problems through the power of cloud-based enterprise management.

Dave holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, and is currently enrolled in Boise State University’s MBA program.

He is also an accomplished musician, having performed at famous venues such as Carnegie Hall, and shared the stage with legendary groups including The Manhattan Transfer and Take Six.

Gary Moore

Gary joined the Idaho SBDC as Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) Program Manager in August 2015. He is in charge of managing the program to efficiently support both program employees and clients. He develops and presents training workshops to Idaho businesses, as well as supports our partners with their training and educational conferences.

Gary has extensive experience as project manager and administrative/operation manager with a strong background in planning, designing, and implementing programs to improve efficiency. He excels in the areas of interpersonal skills, problem solving, and managerial skills and processes.

Lee Velten

Lee Velten joined the Idaho SBDC in August, 2015 as the PTAC Business Consultant. He is responsible for providing assistance to Idaho-based businesses in their efforts to find, win and successfully perform on federal, state, local government and large industry contracts.

Prior to joining the SBDC, Velten worked 5 years in the PTAC program at the Idaho Department of Commerce.

Prior to his joining the Idaho PTAC, Lee managed restaurants in the Boise area and worked as a food officer with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. Lee retired from the US Army in 1993 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after serving 23 years on active duty in a myriad of assignments.

Lee holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton and is a graduate of the US Army Command & General Staff College.

Lee and his wife Mechel have four adult children and three grandchildren and have been residents of Boise since his retirement from the military.

Laura Mathews

Laura joined the Idaho SBDC in September 2015. Laura serves in a dual role as Environmental Assistance Coordinator and Project Manager. In her environmental role, she assists small businesses in complying with air quality regulations. As Project Manager, she works on projects designed to help improve the SBDC and increase the resources available to our clients.

Prior to joining the SBDC, Laura lived in Chicago working as a sustainability professional in several industries with a focus on waste diversion, staff and client education and improving operational efficiencies. Her experience in food & beverage, sports management, waste management and event planning provide a wide array of expertise that benefit the many diverse small businesses in Idaho. Laura graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Spanish & Psychology and is a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt.

Olgie is an Administrative Assistant. She brings with her 30+ years of work as a hands-on small business owner/manager. Along with her background in small business, she has a Bachelor of Science which focused on Health Information Management, and is a few credits shy of a Master’s Certificate in Leadership. Prior to joining the SBDC, Olgie worked with the Department of Bilingual Education and Center for School improvement at Boise State. She was the primary finance person and event manager for both departments.

Glenna is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the Idaho Biz Help website (formerly called Idaho Small Business Solutions): idahobizhelp.idaho.gov. She was involved in the development of and currently manages the website

Glenna also performs market research and works on special projects for Idaho SBDC clients. Glenna is a graduate of Boise State University with a degree in Entrepreneurial Management. She has been with the Idaho SBDC since July 1997.

Eldar Sakebaev

Eldar is an international student from Kyrgyzstan and has been studying in Idaho since 2010. He is
passionate about international business, commerce and diplomacy, and thus earned his Bachelor’s
degree in International Business.

During his undergraduate studies, Eldar owned a small distribution business in Kyrgyzstan and shipped
sustainable products from Boise. He participated in Global Scholars and Idaho Export Excellence
programs on campus, and held officer positions in student organizations such as International Business
Organization and International Student Association.

During the MBA program, Eldar focused on improving his analytical skills in data visualization and
corporate strategy. After the graduation he plans to apply his knowledge in one of the areas of his interest
in finance, healthcare and international trade. Through his business experience, Eldar learned the
importance of integrity and professionalism from his professors and business mentors, and thus, aspires
to become an excellent professional and an effective communicator like them.
