A consulting firm finds success with subcontracting
“The SBDC kept me focused on the tasks that needed to be done to get my business started on the right foot.” – owner Michael Sipos
With over 20 years experience in the field of wildlife biology, Michael Sipos decided to start an environmental consulting business in late 2015. Concerned about the complexity of owning his own business, he sought help from the Idaho SBDC prior to officially opening WMR Environmental. He received assistance on a number of key business functions including Quickbooks, website and logo design, marketing, price structure, mission statement and a business plan.
On one particular visit to the SBDC, while working on his Business Model Canvas, he realized that subcontracting could be a lucrative business. The SBDC proved to be a reliable networking connection, referring Michael to another SBDC client with similar work aspirations who has helped him manage contracts.
Just months after striking out on his own, Michael had more work than he could have expected and is staying very busy.
