Donna and Jon Bratton
She often explains to SBDC staff, “I want to understand the “why” as much as the “how,” because in order to learn I need to know the rationale behind the process.”
Donna and Jon Bratton came to the Twin Falls Small Business Development Center in August 2011. After a combined 40 years in the trucking industry, they made the decision to become trucking business owners. The Brattons’ extensive experience has been invaluable as they planned for the success of their business. They utilized their insight into dispatching, scheduling, bookkeeping, mechanics and driving to guide each of their business decisions. They are focused on success as they grow their business.
Prior to opening JEDCO LLC, Donna asked the Idaho SBDC for assistance in writing an employee handbook. The handbook contains 100% of the policies, payroll dates, time and travel reimbursements and requirements for all personnel. The handbook insures that all the employees understand what is expected of them.
The Brattons are lifelong learners, consistently searching for ways to sharpen their skills. Donna has attended the SBDC’s business boot camp, the Women’s Business & Career Conference and Safety & Business Fest in addition to participating in bookkeeping and tax counseling sessions. She often explains to SBDC staff “I want to understand the “why” as much as the “how,” because in order to learn I need to know the rationale behind the process,” hence the tax and bookkeeping consultations.
The Brattons have set short term and long term goals for their business. They have found ways to increase sales and, most importantly, to keep their trucks on the road. Despite the economic downturn of the past two years, JEDCO LLC has flourished.
