Mercedes and Gloria Guzman have over 30 years of combined experience in restaurant ownership and management. In 2007, they opened Janitzio Family Mexican Restaurant in Twin Falls, offering a menu with recipes originating from their hometown in Michoacán, Mexico. The business soon outgrew the leased property and Mercedes and Gloria began to
investigate the steps needed to purchase a building. On the recommendation of her banker, Gloria visited the Twin Falls office of the Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
With the help of SBDC consultant Sherry Blass, Gloria created a business plan and worked with the local Certified Development Company, Region IV Development Corporation. With these collaborative efforts, Janitzio was able to secure financing to purchase a new building, doubling the available restaurant space and seating capacity.
…the SBDC took the time to explain the process of applying for a loan.
Janitzio Family Mexican Restaurant opened in their new building in 2012. Janitzio currently has seven employees with yearly profits surpassing projections.
