Tom La Joie

eTripTrader was founded in 2002 by Tom La Joie with the launch of its trip trading software that enabled airline pilots to trade flying trips. By 2007, when the software successfully began serving the needs of thousands of pilots and flight attendants, the system was revised and rebranded as Crew Companion.

In 2009 eTripTrader expanded its product line by adding an automated shift trading solution, SkedFlex, a comprehensive schedule management solution for any company in any industry that employs shift workers. Currently, eTripTrader products are being used by over 17,000 employees.

Tom La Joie, the company founder and CEO, has over 25 years of aviation, leadership, crew planning and scheduling experience as a United Airlines pilot and a US Air Force pilot.  Tom is a graduate of Sacramento State University with a BA in mathematics. While in the Air Force, he led a $6 million software development project, which provided valuable experience in developing his own company.

Tom came to the Boise SBDC in 2006 for assistance in preparing a business plan and financial statements in preparation for applying for an SBA loan. Region III Director Betti Newburn spent many hours assisting him. In 2012, Tom received an SBA-guaranteed loan to expand his staff and build a portable application for iPads and smart phones. In 2012, eTripTrader was named Small Business of the Year by the Boise Chamber of Commerce.

Until recently, eTripTrader was located at the TECenter incubator in Nampa, where Tom and his staff had access to mentoring and other assistance. Tom is now a mentoring member of the Idaho Technology Council  (ITC) where he plays an impactful role in helping technology start-ups.
