Boise Guest House
EVE-MARIE BERGREN OWNS AND OPERATES BOISE GUEST HOUSE, a group of unique boutique apartment suites. The suites are available for nightly, weekly, and monthly stays and are located in a historic turn–of– the–century home. Eve integrated her art background into the design of the suites with modern appointments and contemporary artwork.
Early on, Eve knew she wanted help. “I needed a smart marketing concept, tight financial planning and some advice on managing staff.” Eve took classes to increase her business knowledge in marketing and social media, and began working with Debbie Winkler at the Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
I have a Masters in Fine Arts, so my overall business exposure was limited. Working with the SBDC was like being in a real-time accelerated MBA course.
Eve stated, “Debbie helped me create smart marketing strategies. We worked together to create cash flow statements and a budget to manage spending, both of which streamlined decision-making. I learned that maximizing occupancy, managing expenses, and raising prices slightly were keys to operating a small hotel.”
“As a client at the SBDC, I have also tapped into various resources such as free legal counseling and human resource development including the creation of an employee handbook.” Since its establishment in 2008, the business has recorded a 300% increase in revenue.
